Watch Your Points and Miles Before They Expire

Verified 2026-10-21

Points and miles expire in loyalty programs most people forget they joined, and a muse can keep watch over the balances, surface the ones close to expiring, and warn you while there is still time to use them or keep them alive.

What it does

Loyalty points rarely vanish with a warning you notice. A program sends one email, the account sits untouched for months, and a balance built up over years drops to zero. The muse fixes the watching part. Give it the programs you belong to and it builds one list: the program, the balance, and the date the points expire or the account goes inactive. It checks that list on a schedule you set and flags anything getting close, with the smallest step that would keep the balance alive where the program allows one, such as a small purchase through the program or booking something you already planned to book. Tools built for this job pull expiring points into view alongside other money people tend to lose track of. The muse does not spend or move your points. It brings the deadline to you early enough that the choice is still yours.

How to use it

  1. List every loyalty program you can remember: airlines, hotels, cards, and store programs all count.
  2. Connect the accounts you are comfortable connecting, or share recent statements for the rest, and ask for one combined list with balances and expiry dates.
  3. Read the list and correct it. Programs you closed and balances you already spent should come off.
  4. Set the warning window: "Tell me 60 days before any balance expires, and again at 14 days."
  5. When a warning lands, pick one answer while it is cheap: use the points, take the small step that resets the clock, or let them go on purpose.

What you need

  • A muse account
  • A list of your loyalty programs, with logins or recent statements for each
  • A warning window that gives you real time to act, not a day

What to watch for

  • Programs change their rules. Some points never expire while others die with no activity, so confirm the first list against each program's own page.
  • Balances the muse cannot reach will not appear until you tell it about them.
  • It is normal if handing an agent a view of your travel accounts sounds like a lot. Start read-only with one or two programs, and add more only when the warnings prove useful.
  • The muse watches and warns; you decide what the points are for.
