Treat a Shared Chat Link as Public

When you ask a muse to share a conversation, it publishes that conversation as a web page and gives you a link to send. Anyone with the link can open the page without signing in, so treat a share link as public from the moment it is made.

What it does

Sharing feels private because you send the link to one person. The page itself is not private. It opens for anyone who holds the link, the link can be forwarded, and it does not expire on its own. In October 2026, researchers found more than 6,800 shared Muse pages listed by name in public records, because each page address was built from the conversation title. Most pages were harmless, but some held sensitive material, including a loan application and a staff vacation calendar. Meta paused sharing, fixed how the addresses are built, and turned sharing back on with new links. Old links no longer lead to the content, and anything shared before the fix has to be shared again.

How to use it

1. Before you share, read the conversation title and the full chat once more. The title can give away the topic on its own, and the page holds everything in the chat, not just the final answer.
2. Share the answer, not the conversation, when you can. Copy the part the other person needs into a message or document you control, and keep the rest of the chat with you.
3. If you do share a link, send it only to the people who need it, and say plainly that it should not be forwarded.
4. Keep a short list of what you have shared. If a shared chat held a password or account number, change the password first, then remove the share.
5. If you shared anything before late October 2026 and the other person still needs it, share it fresh. The old link is dead.

What to watch for

• Removing a link stops new visits, but it does not recall copies someone already made, and old page titles can stay in public records after the page is gone.
• A chat can hold more than you remember, including things you pasted in early on. Read the whole thing, not just the end.
• It is normal if this sounds stricter than sharing felt at the time. The muse shares only when you ask it to, and you decide what is safe to put on a public page.
