Take a Copy of Your Instagram Followers With You

Ask your muse for a copy of your Instagram follower list, and it can pull your data into a spreadsheet you keep, so your audience is not trapped inside one app.

What it does

Your follower list lives inside Instagram, in Instagram's format, on Instagram's terms. A muse can read your Instagram data and export the follower list into a portable spreadsheet, then examine followers of those accounts and build a simple network view. The point is not the pretty chart. The point is that you end up with your own copy of your own data, in a file you control.

That matters most for people who use Instagram for business: a shop owner who wants a backup of their customer audience, a creator who wants to know who is actually following them, anyone who has ever thought about what would happen to their audience if the account disappeared.

How to use it

  1. Connect your Instagram account to your muse with read access first. Do not grant messaging or posting until you have seen it handle a read-only task well.
  2. Ask for a bounded export: "Export my follower list to a spreadsheet with username, name, and follow date." Keep the request specific so you can check the result.
  3. Compare the row count and a few sample rows against what you see in the Instagram app. If the numbers do not line up, say so and ask it to try again.
  4. Save the file somewhere you control, like your own computer or cloud drive. Now you have the copy, not just the app.

What you need

  • An Instagram account connected to your muse
  • A few minutes to spot-check the export against the app

What to watch for

Exports can stop short at unexplained limits, so treat the export as a starting copy, not a perfect mirror: always verify the count before relying on it. The network visualization looked interesting but was not actually useful for analysis, so do not pay for anything based on the chart alone. As with any account connection, start read-only, check the audit trail of what the muse did, and only widen permissions when you have seen it behave. The muse prepares the copy, you decide what to do with it.
