Replace a Broken Dishwasher Without the Research Spiral

Verified 2026-10-14

When a dishwasher dies, the hard part is deciding whether a repair is worth it, then comparing replacements by the full installed price, not the sticker price. A muse can do that work: check the age and likely repair value, then price replacements that fit your space across local stores, with installation included.

What it does

Tell the muse the model and what went wrong, and it looks up how long that kind of appliance usually lasts and what a repair involves. If the machine is near the end of its normal life, it will say plainly that a repair is poor value. Then it takes your measurements and needs, such as quiet running, and builds a short list of replacements that fit. For each one it adds up the real cost: the machine, delivery, installation, and removal of the old one, checked store by store. You see the totals side by side, with the reasons each model made the list.

How to use it

  1. Send the model number, the age if you know it, and what stopped working.
  2. Ask: "Is a repair worth it for a machine this age, or should we replace it? Show me why."
  3. Measure the space: width, height, and depth. Send the numbers and any must haves, like a quiet rating.
  4. Ask for the short list priced the same way for every store: machine, delivery, installation, and haul away included in one total.
  5. Pick the model yourself, then approve the order only after you have read the total and the install date.

What you need

  • The model number and a tape measure for the space the machine sits in
  • A store account if you want the muse to price or order through a store you already use
  • A budget range, so models that cost far more are left off the list

What to watch for

Measurements decide whether the day goes well or badly. Measure twice and send a photo of the space if you can, because a model that is a fraction too wide cannot be fixed at the door. Installation terms vary by store and by town, so read what is included before you approve: some totals leave out parts or extra work. Online reviews and forum posts can point to weak models, but treat star counts with care and ask the muse to show you the reasons, not just the scores. The muse does the comparing; you make the call on a large purchase for your home.
