Rebuild Your Research Spreadsheet from Public Filings

Verified 2026-10-20

A muse can rebuild a research spreadsheet you once made by hand, looking up each figure from public sources and entering live formulas, so the sheet stays current.

What it does

Hobby investors often have one spreadsheet they built over many hours, with prices, terms, and notes gathered one lookup at a time. Rebuilding it by hand is the kind of job that never gets done. A muse can do the lookups as one task. It looks up each figure from public sources, such as strike and redemption prices in a filing, writes a short description of each company, and enters formulas that pull live prices, so the sheet updates itself when opened. The same approach keeps other sheets current: figures refreshed from the latest public filings, and errors flagged when they show up, such as prices quoted in a foreign currency sitting next to values reported in dollars.

How to use it

  1. Share the old spreadsheet, or describe it plainly: the columns, the list it covers, and where each figure comes from.
  2. Say: "Rebuild this sheet. Look up each value from public sources, and use live price formulas where a formula exists instead of typing prices by hand."
  3. Ask for a small test first, such as the first twenty rows, and check those figures against the sources yourself.
  4. Approve the full build, then spot-check a sample of rows, including the first, the last, and a few in the middle.
  5. Ask the muse to refresh the filing-based figures on a schedule, and to send you a note when something you track changes.

What you need

  • A spreadsheet account the muse can work in, such as Google Sheets
  • The old sheet, or a clear description of its columns and coverage
  • The public sources its figures come from, such as filings and exchange listings

What to watch for

  • Check the test rows before the full build runs. A wrong column meaning, repeated across hundreds of rows, is harder to fix than to catch early.
  • Live formulas only update for listed items with a working ticker. Anything delisted or renamed needs a manual look.
  • Filings are the source of truth. If sheet and filing figures disagree, the filing wins and the sheet gets corrected.
  • This is research help, not investment advice. The muse gathers the numbers; what they mean for your money stays your judgment.
