Put Your Morning Briefing on a Small Desk Screen
A small color e-ink screen on your desk or counter can show your morning briefing, reminders, and shopping list, kept up to date by your muse, so the day is visible at a glance without picking up your phone.
What it does
E-ink is the same kind of screen used on e-readers. It is easy to read in bright light, it only uses power when the picture changes, and it holds the last picture when idle. Ready-made project setups connect one of these displays to your muse through the open gadget software. Once paired, your muse can put words and simple pictures on the screen and refresh them on a rhythm you choose. A common setup shows a morning briefing first thing: the weather, the first appointments, and anything due today. Later the same screen can hold reminders, a shopping list, or a short note such as a pickup time. Because the screen sits in a shared place, the information reaches everyone in the house.
How to use it
- Buy one of the supported color e-ink displays listed among the gadget project examples, sold as do-it-yourself gear.
- Follow the project setup: load the gadget software, get a gadget token from the muse site, and pair the screen in the app.
- Tell your muse exactly what the screen is for, in plain words: a morning briefing at 7, reminders during the day, and the shopping list in the evening.
- Place it where the household actually looks, such as beside the coffee maker or by the front door.
- Check it each morning for the first week, and narrow the briefing until every line earns its space.
What you need
- A supported e-ink display from the project examples, bought separately
- A muse account and a gadget token for pairing
- A home WiFi network the screen can join
- Agreement at home about what may appear on a shared screen
What to watch for
This is hobby gear, not a finished home appliance. The first setup takes patience, and the maker of the muse does not warrant the third party screens, so a part that fails is a problem between you and that seller. E-ink refreshes slowly, which is fine for a briefing and poor for anything that changes by the minute. Keep private items off it: a shared screen is the wrong place for health details or money figures. Start with weather, appointments, and the shopping list, and add more only when the basics have run clean for a while.
