Put Lunar Birthdays on Your Calendar in Solar Dates

Verified 2026-10-16

For family members whose birthdays are kept on the lunar calendar, a muse can find each lunar birthday, convert it to the solar date for this year and the years ahead, and put the right date on your calendar with a reminder in time to call, visit, or send a gift.

What it does

A lunar birthday moves against the regular calendar every year, so the date that was right last year is wrong this year, and the birthday gets missed or remembered a day late. A muse can do the conversion work properly: you give it the lunar month and day for each person, and it works out the matching solar date year by year, then adds each one to your calendar as a dated event, not a fixed annual repeat. It sets the reminder early enough to be useful, a week ahead if a gift needs posting, or the day before if it is a call or a family meal. It can also check its dates against a published lunar calendar for that year before adding them.

How to use it

  1. List the people and their lunar birthdays: lunar month, lunar day, and the year of birth if you know it.
  2. Say: "Convert these lunar birthdays to solar dates for this year and next year, and check them against a lunar calendar before adding anything."
  3. Review the dates it brings back. If an older relative counts age or dates in a way your family does differently, say so now.
  4. Ask for reminders that fit how you mark the day: a week ahead for gifts, the day before for calls and visits.
  5. Add any other family dates kept the same way, such as memorial days, in the same pass.

What you need

  • Each person's lunar birth month and day, as your family records them
  • Your calendar connected, if you want events and reminders added for you
  • A few minutes to review the converted dates before they are saved

What to watch for

Leap months can shift a conversion, and some lunar months have 29 days where others have 30, so the check against a published calendar for the exact year matters; do not let the muse copy last year's date forward. Families also differ on whether the celebration follows the lunar date itself or a fixed solar date picked long ago, so confirm the custom with whoever keeps the family records if you are unsure. The muse prepares the dates, you make the call that makes the day.
