Keep a Standing Watch for Secondhand Finds

確認済み 2026-10-12

Some things are worth buying used, but only at the right price, and checking listings every day gets old fast. A muse can keep a standing watch over secondhand listings and free-item groups for the things on your wish list, learn what a fair local price looks like, and flag only the listings that beat it.

What it does

Give the muse a wish list of items you would like to own someday, with the most you would pay for each one. It checks local marketplace listings and community free-item groups on a regular rhythm and compares each match against recent local listings for the same kind of item, so it can tell a fair price from a good one. When a listing comes in under the going local price, or a wanted item shows up free, you get one message with the listing, the asking price, and how it compares. Nothing is bought and no seller is contacted until you say so.

How to use it

  1. Write the wish list in plain words: the item, the style or size that counts as a match, and your top price for each one.
  2. Name the places to watch: the marketplace and the local free-item or neighborhood groups you already use.
  3. Set the rhythm: "Check twice a week and only message me when something beats the fair local price."
  4. When a flag arrives, open the listing yourself, check the photos and the seller, and decide whether it is worth a trip.
  5. Trim the list as you find things, and add new items the same way, one line each.

What you need

  • Accounts on the marketplace and groups you want watched, signed in where the muse can reach them
  • A wish list with a top price for each item
  • Notifications on, so a good find does not sit unread until it is gone

What to watch for

A fair price table is only as good as the listings behind it, and in a small town there may be too few past sales to judge from. Ask the muse how many listings it compared before you trust a "good deal" flag. Free-item groups move fast and pickup is first come, so a flag is a heads up, not a hold. Keep your home address out of every seller message, meet in a public place, and never let the muse agree to a price or a pickup time on its own. The muse watches and flags; you decide what is worth chasing.
