Keep a Daily Habit Streak With a Nightly Check-In

Verified 2026-11-03

You can hand one daily habit to your muse and have it check in at a set time every day, keep your streak count, and press you when you miss two in a row.

What it does

A habit is easy to start and easy to quietly drop. A daily check-in makes dropping it a decision instead of a drift. You pick one habit with a clear finish line, such as drinking a set amount of water, taking a walk, or reading ten pages. Every day at the time you chose, the muse asks about that habit. You reply with one word, done or missed. The muse writes it down and keeps the running streak, so you can ask at any point how many days in a row you have kept. Miss once and the streak restarts. Miss two days in a row and the messages get firmer, because you asked for that pressure when you set it up.

How to use it

  1. Pick one habit only, with a finish line you can judge in a second. Done or not done, nothing in between.
  2. Set it up in one message: "Track my habit: [your habit]. Check in every day at [time]. I will reply done or missed. Keep my streak count, and call me out if I miss two in a row."
  3. Reply honestly each day. One word is enough, and a missed day reported honestly is worth more than a done that did not happen.
  4. Ask for the count whenever you want to see it: "What is my streak?"
  5. After a week or two, look at the misses with the muse. If they land on the same kind of day, shrink the habit or move the check-in.

What you need

  • A muse account
  • One habit, stated in plain words
  • A check-in time you will actually see

What to watch for

  • The streak only knows what you tell it. If you did the habit but never replied, the count will be wrong until you correct it.
  • Keep the habit small. A modest habit kept for a month beats a heroic one dropped in a week.
  • The firm message after two misses is a setting you chose. You can soften it or stop the check-ins at any point.
  • It is normal if a daily check-in from a program feels odd at first. You set the habit and the time, you can review what it has recorded, and the habit is always yours to do or skip.
