Get the Bank Fee Waived

Verified 2026-10-07

A late fee or an overdraft charge lands on your statement and it stings. Banks quietly reverse these for good customers who ask nicely. A muse can find the fee, write the ask, and get it sent before you forget about it.

What it does

Point the muse at the fee on your statement: the amount, the date, and which bank. It builds a short courtesy-request message mentioning how long you have been a customer and whether this is your first slip. Where the bank has an online message center, it drafts the request and sends it after you approve. Some banks need a phone call instead, and for those the muse writes you a script with the exact points to make, so you spend two minutes instead of twenty.

How to use it

  1. Tell the muse about the fee: which bank, the amount, and when it posted.
  2. Let it draft a courtesy waiver request that mentions your customer history.
  3. Review the draft and approve it. Sending is always your call.
  4. If the bank needs a call, ask for the script and keep it on your screen while you dial.
  5. Tell the muse the outcome so it remembers what worked for next time.

What you need

  • A view of the statement where the fee appears
  • Your bank's secure message center or phone number
  • A solid customer history helps your case; first-time slips get forgiven most often

What to watch for

This works best as a once-in-a-while ask. Banks track how often you request waivers, and the third ask is harder than the first. Do not invent a reason you cannot back up: "this was my first late payment in five years" is strong because it is true. If the fee came from something the bank did wrong, say so plainly and ask for the correction instead of the courtesy. Either way, keep the muse's memory updated so it knows your fee history across accounts.
