Get an Urgent Alert When a Time-Sensitive Message Arrives

Your muse can watch your email for one named, time-sensitive thread, ignore everything else, and message you at once when that sender needs an answer, then check that you actually replied.

What it does

Most inboxes mix the urgent with the ordinary, and the urgent message usually arrives while you are in a meeting, at an event, or away from your phone. A focused watch works differently from a general inbox summary. You name one situation that cannot wait, such as a pet sitter who may need care instructions during a sitting. Your muse monitors the mail tied to that service, sets the rest of the day's mail aside, and surfaces only the message that needs a fast answer, with the reason in plain words, for example that the sitter is about to leave and needs to know where the medication is kept. It then follows up until you have responded, so the alert does not sink under later messages.

How to use it

1. Connect the email account the service writes to, and any messaging route the service uses that your muse can read.
2. Name the watch in plain words: who or which service, what counts as urgent, and the window it runs for, such as today between nine and five.
3. Say where the alert should reach you, and that everything else can wait for your normal summary.
4. When the alert arrives, reply to the original message yourself, then tell your muse you have answered so the follow-up stops.
5. End the watch when the sitting, visit, or job is over, or let the window you set run out.

What to watch for

• Keep the watch narrow. One sender and one situation is what lets the urgent message stand out. A watch on everything urgent alerts all day.
• It is normal if a service watching your mail sounds like a lot. You choose the account, the sender, and the window, you can end the watch at any time, and the muse alerts you rather than replying for you.
• The watch can only see services that reach a connected account. If a sitter writes to a different inbox, that message will not be caught.
• Test it first. Have someone send a harmless test message from the watched route, and confirm the alert reaches you fast.
