Compare the Mortgage Renewal Before You Sign

確認済み 2026-10-11

A muse can take the renewal offer your bank sends you, compare it against the rates other lenders are offering right now, and lay the choice out in one clear table before you sign anything.

What it does

Most people sign the renewal offer in the mail because comparing lenders takes hours. A muse does the comparison work for you. You give it your renewal offer, the rate, the term, and the remaining balance, and it gathers current rates from other banks and lenders for the same term, then builds a simple decision table: each lender, its rate, the monthly payment at that rate, and the total cost over the term. In one verified case, a three year renewal offer was set against current rates from banks in the same area, and the table made it plain whether signing, switching, or negotiating was the better move. The point is seeing, in one place, what the bank's offer is really worth next to the market.

How to use it

  1. Send the renewal offer as it arrived: "Here is my renewal offer. The rate, the term, and the balance are in this letter."
  2. Ask for the market check: "Find current rates for the same term from other lenders and compare them to this offer."
  3. Ask for the table: "Show me each option with the monthly payment and the total cost over the full term, side by side."
  4. Ask the follow up that matters: "What would I save by switching, after any fees for breaking or moving the mortgage?"
  5. Take the table to your bank first. A lender that knows you have a real competing offer will often match it, and the muse can draft that ask for you.

What you need

  • Your renewal offer, with the rate, term, balance, and the deadline to sign
  • A few minutes to check the table before you act on it

What to watch for

Rates move. A comparison is a snapshot of the week you ran it, so run it close to your signing deadline, not months early. Switching lenders can carry fees, appraisals, and paperwork that eat the saving, which is why the table has to show total cost, not just the headline rate. The muse compares and lays out the choice; the signature stays yours, and a mortgage is a big enough decision that reading the final offer yourself, line by line, is time well spent. If your situation involves a penalty for leaving early or a blended rate, say so up front, because that changes the math.
