Clean Out the Ancient Inbox

Point a muse at years of promotional email and it can sort, group, and delete them in bulk, starting with a read-only list you approve before anything gets removed.

What it does

It finds promotional and marketing emails, groups them by sender, and shows you the counts. After you whitelist anything you want to keep (order receipts you actually search for, a newsletter you read), it deletes the rest. In testing, this cleared thousands of messages on a desktop machine.

The two-step pattern, list first, then delete, is the whole trick. It takes one extra minute and removes the one risk that matters: deleting something you wanted.

How to use it

  1. Connect your email. If your muse offers read-only versus full access, start with "find and list, don't delete anything yet."
  2. Ask: "Find all promotional and marketing emails older than 90 days. Group them by sender and show me the counts. Don't delete yet."
  3. Review the list and whitelist what you want to keep. Then: "Delete everything on this list except the ones I flagged."
  4. Ask for a summary of what was removed. Keep that summary for a week in case you miss something.

What you need

  • Your email account connected to the muse
  • Read-only access to start; deletion rights only after you have seen the list
  • A desktop machine if mobile sign-in glitches (in testing, mobile sign-in had issues, so the cleanup happened on desktop)

What to watch for

Do not start with "delete everything old." The muse does the sorting; you make the irreversible calls. The same list-first pattern works for unsubscribing, archiving old project threads, or filing receipts.
