Check Your Shopify Store Settings for Agent Shopping

Verified 2026-10-25

If you sell on Shopify, shopping agents can already find your products and check out in their own app, because the setting that allows it is on by default for eligible stores.

What it does

In September 2026 Shopify added Meta's agent as a sales channel inside its Agentic settings. For an eligible store, two things are on unless the owner turns them off: your products are shared through the Shopify Catalog, where a muse can find them, and a customer can buy inside the muse app with Shop Pay, without visiting your store page. A second setting, called Allow Shopify to Manage for Me, is on by default, and it signs the store up for each new agent channel Shopify adds later. None of this needs code or a new app, but it does need a decision: many owners were switched on through a changelog note and never looked. You can leave everything on, turn off direct checkout, or pick channels one by one.

How to use it

  1. Sign in to your Shopify admin and open Sales Channels, then Agentic, then the Meta channel.
  2. Read what is switched on: product sharing through the catalog, and direct checkout.
  3. Check the Allow Shopify to Manage for Me setting: if it is on, future channels are added automatically.
  4. Confirm your store reads well to an agent: policies published, product titles, sizes, materials, and prices complete and current.
  5. Decide on purpose. Keep the defaults, turn off direct checkout, or turn off the manage-for-me setting and choose channels yourself.
  6. After any change, give it time. Catalog updates can take up to seven days to reach the channels.

What you need

  • A Shopify store that sells to customers in the United States, Canada, or Mexico
  • Products accepted into the Shopify Catalog and the Agentic terms agreed to
  • Published shipping, returns, refund, and privacy policies
  • Admin access to the store

What to watch for

  • Orders inside the agent app carry no extra Shopify fee, but your tracking pixels do not run in that checkout, so those sales miss your usual website reports.
  • Turning off the catalog does not hide your store. An agent can still browse your public website, so clear product pages matter either way.
  • Check what an agent can see if you use hide-price-until-login or member-only pricing. Those listings are the ones most likely to be quoted wrong.
  • Who covers the cost when an agent buys the wrong item is not settled. Read the channel terms before leaving checkout on for pricey products.
