Call Ahead to Check Before You Go

Verified 2026-10-12

A muse can place a short phone call to a library, a shop, or another place and ask the simple questions you would ask before making the trip, then brings back a written record of the answers. In a verified call, a staff member confirmed where a visitor could work on a laptop, which floors had outlets, and that the WiFi needed no password or library card.

What it does

Some answers never make it onto a website: whether you can sit and work, where the outlets are, whether the WiFi needs a card. The muse can make that call through a calling connector it builds and saves, ask your questions in order, and return who answered, what was confirmed, and what stayed unanswered, with a transcript. The saved connector can be reused later, so setup is a one time job. The muse shows you the plan first: you approve the place, the questions, and the time limit before anything is dialed.

How to use it

  1. Ask the muse to build the calling connector: "Build a custom connector for the calling service so you can place phone calls for me." Enter your key through the secure Connect card it shows you, never in the chat itself.
  2. Let it test the connection with a balance check before any call is placed.
  3. Give it one place and a short list of questions: "Call the main library and ask where I can work on a laptop, which floors have outlets, and whether the WiFi needs a library card."
  4. Approve the call plan it shows you, including the destination and a short time limit, such as four minutes.
  5. Read the summary and transcript when it returns, and note which questions were confirmed and which were not.

What you need

  • An account with a phone calling service the muse can connect to, which charges per minute for calls
  • The name and published phone number of the place you want called
  • A short list of questions worth a trip decision

What to watch for

Keep the first calls informational only: questions, hours, and policies. Do not ask the muse to book or buy on a call until you have heard how it handles the simple ones. An answered call is not the same as an answered question, so check each question against the transcript. The calling service may ring your own phone to verify you or patch you in, and the muse should warn you first. Per minute charges are small but real, so a time limit belongs in every call plan.
