Build an Automation That Keeps Running Through Zapier

Verified 2026-11-01

You can describe a repeating job to your muse in plain words and have it build that job as an automation on Zapier, so it keeps running on its own schedule after your conversation ends.

What it does

Most jobs you give a muse end when the chat ends. This one keeps going. Through Zapier, your muse can turn a plain description into a standing automation, called a Next Gen Zap, that lives on Zapier and runs by itself. First it comes back with a build plan: the apps it found, what will start the job, and the steps in order. After you approve the plan, it writes the automation, saves it as a draft, and tests it with sample input. If the test fails, it fixes the problem and tests again. Only a passing test gets published. From then on it runs when its trigger fires, such as a new form reply, or on the schedule you set.

How to use it

  1. Connect Zapier to your muse first, in Settings under Connectors, if you have not already.
  2. Check that your Zapier account has Next Gen Zaps early access turned on.
  3. Describe the job in plain words: the apps, what starts it, and each step. For example: "Every weekday at 8, copy new form replies into my sheet and post the count to my team."
  4. Read the build plan. Check the apps, trigger, and step order before approving.
  5. Let it test the draft with sample input. Nothing is live during the test.
  6. Approve publishing, then check the first real runs in the run history.

What you need

  • A muse account, with Zapier connected
  • A Zapier Professional, Team, or Enterprise plan with Next Gen Zaps early access
  • Accounts for the apps in the job, connected inside Zapier
  • A job that repeats in a clear pattern

What to watch for

  • Early access means not every account has this yet. If the muse cannot build one, your account most likely lacks access.
  • A published automation is agent managed by default: an agent watches its runs and can apply some fixes without asking you. Tighten the management settings in Zapier if you want every change to wait for your approval.
  • Start with a low-risk job, away from sensitive files and financial records.
  • It is normal if a job running while you sleep sounds strange. The run history shows what it did, and you can pause or turn it off at any time. The muse prepares, you decide.
