Break a Big Build Into Weekly Targets With a Friday Check-In
Give your muse a big project with a finish date and it breaks the work into a weekly target, loads the schedule onto your calendar, and checks in every Friday on what got done.
What it does
A long project rarely fails in one big moment. It fades a week at a time. You name the finished thing and the date it has to be done by, and the muse does the arithmetic with you. Together you count the work in plain units: frames built, rooms painted, chapters drafted. The muse divides the total by the weeks left and sets a weekly target that fits your real hours. Then it loads the schedule onto your calendar, week by week. Every Friday it checks in: you report what got finished, it compares the count with the target, and any shortfall gets spread over the remaining weeks as a new weekly number. The finish date stays fixed, and the weekly target is what moves.
How to use it
- Describe the project in one message: what finished looks like, and the date it must be done by.
- Count the work together in units you can see, and correct the muse's count with your own before anything is scheduled.
- Agree on a weekly target that fits your real week, not your best week.
- Tell the muse to put the schedule on your calendar, one entry per week, each naming that week's target.
- Set the check-in: "Every Friday, ask me what I finished, compare it with the target, and tell me the new weekly number if I am behind."
- Answer honestly, even when the answer is zero.
What you need
- A muse account
- A calendar your muse can add events to
- A finish date, and a rough count of the total work in units you can measure
What to watch for
- The plan is only as good as the first count. If the total is understated, every target is too low and the shortfall lands in the final weeks. Recount after two weeks, when you know your real pace.
- Weather, deliveries, and other people can stall a week. Tell the muse why a week was lost, so it reshuffles the work instead of setting an impossible target.
- A check-in you keep ignoring is a project going quiet. If Fridays do not work, move the day, but keep one fixed check-in.
- The muse tracks and recalculates. It does not do the building, and it cannot see progress you never reported.
