Book the Table with a Throwaway Card

When a muse books something that needs a card, it can pay with a one-time-use virtual card instead of your real number, so the merchant's site never sees it.

What it does

Meta's version of the payment flow runs through Link by Stripe. When the agent makes a booking, it generates a single-use virtual card number for that transaction. The number works once and then dies. Booking sites, small restaurants, and ticketing pages are exactly the places where card numbers leak, because small merchants get breached all the time. If the site is hit later, there is nothing useful left to steal.

Nothing moves without your approval first. The muse prepares the booking, shows you the details, you approve, and the single-use card carries the payment.

How to use it

  1. Ask the muse to make the booking as usual: "Book a table for two at this place on Friday at 7."
  2. When a card is needed, ask it to pay with a one-time-use card rather than your real number.
  3. Review the booking details and approve the payment. Do not skip the approval step.
  4. Keep it in mind as a standing rule: any new merchant gets the throwaway card, not your real number.

What you need

  • A payment method the muse is set up with (Meta's runs through Link by Stripe)
  • Approvals on for all payments

What to watch for

A booking that needs your real card saved on file with the merchant is a different decision. Make it consciously, not by default. Also worth knowing: the company behind the free agent plans to take a small cut from businesses on each transaction, so the payment plumbing is where its interests live. Free is never fully free, and keeping your real card out of the flow stays in your interest no matter who built the tool.
