Always Check for the Cheaper Way to Book

Verified 2026-10-06

Before you book a hotel or a flight, have your muse check whether the exact same room or seat is cheaper somewhere else: direct with the property, on another platform, or through a different fare. Tell it once to do this every time, and it becomes a standing habit you never think about again.

What it does

The same hotel room is often listed at different prices in different places, and the cheapest option is rarely the first one you see. A muse can check: is the property's own website undercutting the booking platform, is another site listing it for less, is there a lower fare class on the same flight. It compares the real totals, including the taxes and fees that hide at checkout, and shows you where the same booking costs less.

The part that makes it stick is memory. Tell the muse once, "always check for a cheaper way to book before I confirm anything," and it applies that rule to every future booking without being asked again. The muse prepares the comparison, you decide where to book.

How to use it

  1. When you are about to book a hotel or flight, ask the muse to check whether the same option is cheaper anywhere else before you commit.
  2. Have it compare full totals, not the headline price: taxes, fees, and breakfast-or-no-breakfast can flip the ranking.
  3. If the comparison looks right, tell the muse to remember the rule: "From now on, always check for the cheaper way to book before I confirm."
  4. Book through whichever option wins, after checking the cancellation terms yourself.

What you need

  • The booking you are considering (hotel name and dates, or flight route and dates)
  • Nothing else. No accounts needed for the comparison.

What to watch for

Cheaper is not always better. Booking direct with a property means you deal with the property if plans change, with no platform customer service in the middle, and some cheap fares cannot be changed at all. Read the cancellation terms before you save the money. Prices also move fast, so treat the comparison as good for today, not for next week.
